Hand N Foot is a game that was developed from necessity, really. Durwood and Joyce Miller consistently found themselves uprooted and amidst foreign countries quite frequently due to Durwood’s occupation as an oil drilling consultant. Often, the countries that they would be sent to did not have North American luxuries (such as television and movie theaters) to entertain them. So, the Millers decided to venture out into various towns in order to discover other ways of passing the time. Upon spending some time in Indonesia, they stumbled upon a card game that was popular with the locals, and though they tried to keep up with the game rules, it seemed as though the game was something of a fable.
You see, in much the same way that a story is told from generation to generation, Hand N Foot was a game played according to a deeply embedded tradition that really didn’t have any set of pre-determined rules. So, the Millers took it upon themselves to write down a set of rules that made sense to them, and they proceeded to bring the game to every country that they moved to. Quickly, the fame became popular throughout the world, and soon many people were writing in to the Millers in order to find out how to play the game. As soon as the Millers realized that Hand N Foot could become a phenomenon, they brought the game to North America with the hopes that it would catch on – it has.
Hand N Foot is a relatively simple card game that the entire family can play, and the rules are really quite easy to follow. Each deck of Hand N Foot cards includes various medieval characters (Lord, Lady, Joker, Jester, and Villain). Each player receives 22 cards, which then must be split into two groups of 11. One set of cards becomes the “hand” and one becomes the “foot.” Each player must play the “hand” before the “foot” is played, and whoever reaches the end first wins the game. Each set of Hand N Foot cards comes with detailed instructions, and you are sure to play this challenging game for hours on end.
