One of the key aspects to playing a game of Hand n Foot is to master the art of creating melds. A meld is a great way to earn points so that your team can ultimately be declared the winners. In this card game, a meld is simply a grouping of cards of the same rank. Establishing melds and playing off of them is an important way to bolster your playing abilities.
A meld is created by a group of three or more cards that have the same rank. While jokers and jesters can both be added to the meld as well as wild cards, you can’t have more wild cards that suited cards in any meld. This means that you can’t have any more than three wild cards in any given meld. All melds have to be laid face-up by one of the partners, even though both partners on a team can play off of the meld.
To create the initial meld you will need to accumulate at least 50 points in a meld. Although, if you need to you can make more than one meld in this first turn in order to reach your minimum requirement. For initial melds, only the face value of the cards counts. After this meld has been established all partners on a team may play on their turn. Keep in mind also that, in this card game, a meld is not the same thing as a group. A group consists of 7 or more cards that are of the same suite, and while a group may be included in a meld not all melds are groups.
