Hand 'n Foot May Appeal To Euchre Players

There aren't a lot of card games that are extremely popular among all ages, but Euchre is one of the few that has transcended generational differences to reach a high level of popularity.  This card game is played in informal tournaments at schools, churches, community centers, and among friends across the country.  But what is it about this game of Euchre that people find so endearing?

Euchre is generally played by four players with play coming from partners of two.  It uses your basic deck of cards, although only 24 cards are used during play.  The game focuses on trumps and each player is only dealt five cards.  In each round a suite of cards is named "trump" which means that suite out ranks any other suite, no matter what it's face value is.  And while many would expect that the highest ranking card of Euchre would be the trump suite King, it's actually the trump suite Jack.  The Jack of the suite that matches the trump suite is the second highest ranking card.  To put it simply, if the Jack of Spades is trump than the Jack of Clubs is the second highest ranked card.

People who have been interested in Hand 'n Foot will notice that Euchre shares the characteristic of having "special" cards.  However, with only five cards to handle, rather than twenty-two, there is a lot less for players to keep track of.  Also, in Euchre people are much more dependent upon what the player before them has played.  For example, if the first player plays a diamond than the next player must do so as well.  Hand 'n Foot allows much more freedom for partners to play as they see fit, but those who love Euchre will also love being able to play partners in exciting games of Hand 'n Foot as well.
