Durwood and Joyce Miller were living overseas in Indonesia when they learned to play Hand 'n Foot. However, they would become frustrated that often the rules of the game were changed according to whomever they were currently playing. When the Millers returned to the United States, they looked into applying for a copyright to produce this game. They wrote a uniform set of rules, added tips on how to play, and printed up a set of game cards specifically for playing Hand 'n Foot. This eliminated the need to combine five to seven decks of regular playing cards and negotiating the ground rules before beginning to play. It made Hand 'n Foot much easier to learn to play.
Hand 'n Foot is similar to Rummy or Canasta. There are 262 cards in a set. There are eleven medieval-theme cards in a hand and another eleven cards in a foot. You must play your hand before you play your foot, but you base your strategy on what you believe is in your foot. You can understand why having clearly marked cards and precise rules would be important for avoiding frustration when learning this game. Players from the age of ten years through adulthood have found Hand 'n Foot to be an exciting game.
The Millers offer card sets for $30 per set for one or two sets of cards. Three to four sets sell for $28 per set and five sets or more cost $26 per set. These prices include taxes, shipping, and handling except to Hawaii or Canada. You may pay with check, money order, or credit card. There is also information for retailers who might be interested in selling sets. Contact the Millers at HandnFootgame@yahoo.com or by calling (817)326-5775. The Millers are also offering a fund-raising promotion with the card sets for a limited time.
