Spoons

Spoons is a card game that includes the whole family, in fact you may even want to play it at a family reunion. Spoons is the most fun and exciting with 13 players, although it can be played with as few as three. Spoons is also known by other names such as Pig and Tongue, although those versions do not require spoons to play them.

In order to play Spoons you will need a standard deck of 52 playing cards and one less spoon than the number of players; example: for 10 players, you would need 9 spoons.

The goal of this game is to collect 4 cards of the same rank. However, if another player beats you to that goal, you shouldn't be the last person to realize it. The game play is fairly simple and that is because you must constantly be aware of what the other players are doing or risk your place in the game. In order to achieve the goal of four same rank cards in your hand, everyone takes one card from their hand and passes it to the person on their left. At the same time pick up the card that was just handed to them. This is where strategy comes into play, be careful not to let any of the same rank get passed away and you may not have more than 4 cards in your hand at one time.

When someone has a hand of four same rank cards, they pick up a spoon, trying their best to be unnoticed by as many players as possible. When you notice someone picking up a spoon, you do the same, quickly. If you are the last one to reach for a spoon, you are out of luck and out of the game.
